In my experience as a remote worker, people expect you more in many things, so one of the top lists you must have is a strong commitment to work in a different environment (your home, working space, etc). Not only that, but you also need to have the capacity to communicate your work and the thing that you do to your boss. And as you know, remote work also means the way you communicate is via chat, phone call and or video call. So you need to ready respond as soon as possible whenever they call you or just chat.

In my daily as a remote worker, you need to manage your time properly when you work. Because sometime, you will lose control of time because you did not get the “working environment” as the normal office does. You are the only one to make yourself aware of your time. Sometime you will work soo busy and sometimes you lose control, soo using tools for managing your time like Pomodoro and other tools for your work-rest time is recommended. But, daily time management is not enough, you need to have a plan to manage in a holistic way for your time, working place, and situation to get maximum performance of productivity for your work.

If you cant manage your time, your environment, your mood, and your situation when working as a remote worker you will get disaster in your performance and productivity. Remote working does not mean you work without ethic and self-discipline, it means you can control yourself better when you are in your own environment to boost your performance and productivity.

I think that some experience that I can tell as a remote worker. It has been 2 years more (close to 3 years when this article is made) I’ve been work as Deep Learning Engineer in my company to solve Computer Vision problem. I hope you enjoy what I share, wish me luck in my daily work.
