Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatuh,
Greeting, may peace and bless from to Allah to all of you who read this article.

One of the months in Islamic tradition is the month of Ramadhan. In this month every Muslim is required or supposed to fasting from fajr prayer to maghrib prayer. As a Muslim, fasting in Ramadhan is one of the Islamic pillars, so fasting in this an obligation for every Muslim. Allah says in The Qur’an, The Holy book of Muslim in Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) verse 183 :

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ — 2:183

O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous -

For me, Ramadhan is the month of hope and prayer. The time and place to pray anything inside your heart to The Lord of The World, Allah Azza Wajalla. Allah is The Creator of the universe, the seven heavens, the earth and anything in between. He is the one who creates anything without example. He alone without any support from anyone and anything create everything from the smallest atom, quark or string (if the string theory is proven to be right) to the biggest thing that humanity has ever see or not see it.

With His wisdom, He commands and obligates a believer to fast one full month to make a believer righteous. He who created human being know better what is best for them. There are so many benefits of fasting in Ramadhan, here is the list :

  1. Detoxifying
  2. Appetite Suppressant
  3. Metabolism
  4. Weight Loss
  5. Improve Immune System
  6. Lowering Blood Pressure
  7. Improved Cardiovascular Function
  8. Lowering Blood Sugar
  9. Radiant Complexion /Anti-ageing
  10. Healthier Brain and Cognitive Function

And many more, you can read the full article about the benefit of fasting from the physiological aspect in this link https://www.muslimaid.org/media-centre/blog/the-benefits-of-fasting/.

The command of Allah always has benefit to the human when they obey it with the teaching of Muhammad Rasulullah (The Messenger of Allah) and with Ikhlas (sincere intention to worship Allah alone). The true believer will not think about the benefit that they will get after doing the command of Allah, because they believe Allah is The Creator of all thing with all His Knowledge, Power and Wisdom know what to do best for His creation.

Fasting also helps you to have more control to yourself. In Islam, the subconscious part of human we call nafs (soul). This nafs sometime can take over our ego and conscious to do a bad thing, one of the ways to make our self-awareness or conscious to have more power to control our subconscious is by fasting. In the process of fasting, we as Muslim will hold ourself not to eat, drink and sex with our partner (wife or husband). Holding ourself with something that we have a tendency to do it because of our biological nature will make us have a strong will to reject something that in our desire.

In my point of view, the month of Ramadhan is like a training month for gaining more control over ourself, especially from our biological nature or nafs. In life we often not discipline to what we want to achieve, so many things inside our head want to take over our conscious to do a thing that not in the right time, with fasting we will have more control over our subconscious by rejecting the voice of ourself inside that is not in the right time.

From the explanation that I gave, this is only one of the blessing of Ramadhan. There is layer upon layer of blessing in the month of Ramadhan that I cant uncover all of them in only one article. I hope you enjoy what I write in this article, bless for you all believer who read this article, and for you who not yet believe to Allah and His Messenger Muhammad, I hope Allah will give you guidance (hidayah) to revert back to Islam.
